A Little History

The Griffin

1970 to 1981 - 40 or so members of the Vauxhall Recreation Club Golf Section had ambitious plans. Each member paid little more than £1 and were given use of a field by Vauxhall Motors, at Chaul End. Slowly but surely they constructed their first 'golf hole' on the present site. The original "clubhouse" was made by joining two large packing cases together which facilitated the occasional sandwich and hot drink for the workers.

1985 - the 9 hole course was completed, and the Golf Section of Vauxhall Recreation Club became the Griffin Golf Club and was affiliated to the English Golf Union and adimtted into the Bedforshire Golf Union.

1988 - opening of the new, modern clubhouse. Members were able to enjoy facilities that had not been available in the old "portacabin" and, in 1991 the Club voted to introduce a 5 year development fund to build 12 new holes which, when combined with 6 of the existing holes , would give the club an 18 holes course.

Good Friday, 14th April 1995 - after a 12 month "growing-in" period, the dreams of the 430 members were realised with the opening of the new 18 hole golf course. Members played the course for the first time.

2005/2006 - The course continued to be developed and over 800 new trees have been introduced.

April 2007 - The club is renamed Caddington Golf Club to cement it's growing identity as a open golf club with roots in the local community.

January 2008 - the Golf Club was sold by Vauxhall Recreation Club and taken over by new management to continue operation as a members' golf club..

Facilities & Golf Course continue to be improved........
